Cooking Under the Stars: Our Backyard Outdoor Kitchen in Metairie

I’ve always loved the idea of outdoor cooking — not just a grill in the corner, but a real outdoor kitchen. Living in Metairie, we’re lucky to have long seasons of good weather, and honestly, our backyard just wasn’t living up to its potential. We entertained often, but everything felt piecemeal. That changed when we finally pulled the trigger and worked with CMC’s Services to design something functional and beautiful.

Why We Decided on an Outdoor Kitchen

It started with one too many birthday parties where I was stuck inside cooking while everyone else was outside laughing. The idea of being with everyone while cooking was what sold me. Plus, with Louisiana’s year-round grilling weather, it just made sense.

Designing Our Dream Setup

From the start, they listened to how we use the space. Did we want a bar area? (Yes.) A sink and mini-fridge? (Also yes.) Space to prep? (Absolutely.)

They designed a layout that hugged the back wall of our patio, with plenty of counter space, built-in grill, storage cabinets, and a raised bar top so guests could hang out while we cooked. They even incorporated a gas line hookup so we didn’t have to rely on propane tanks anymore.

The finish? A gorgeous combination of stone veneer and concrete counters. It feels upscale but still very Louisiana — earthy and welcoming.

Installation Without the Headache

The crew from CMC’s was professional, efficient, and super respectful of our property. They handled everything: plumbing for the sink, gas for the grill, even the lighting overhead. What could’ve been a chaotic multi-contractor job was all handled by their team.

The project wrapped up just in time for spring crawfish season — and you better believe that boil was a hit in the new space.

What Changed for Us

Now, we actually use our backyard. Weeknights feel like events — I can sear steak while my wife preps cocktails at the bar. Friends come over and stay longer. Our kids help cook. It turned our backyard into the heart of our home.

And because the kitchen is built with durable, weather-resistant materials, it handles the Metairie humidity and rain like a champ.
